Ichthys
Program
“Ichthys”
is a faith formation program of high school students to
either provide primary education for high school students not in
theology
classes or a supplement to theology classes already taught in Catholic
high
schools. The name “ichthys” is a Greek word which means
“fish”. The Greek letters in the word “ichthys” form an
acronym for
“Jesus Christ, Son of God and Savior”. It is symbolized by a fish with
the
letters inside. The symbol was used by the early Christian
community as a
secret symbol used to mark a place of meeting where they would gather
in prayer
and praise and discuss their faith. Although the early Christians
met in
secret for fear of persecution, their spirit will be with us as we
gather
together free to worship and learn about our faith. We will be
meeting
starting in the fall and podcasting simultaneously for anyone who
cannot join
us for our meetings. For now, enjoy this first podcast, sort of a
preview
of things to come!
